    300Tdi water pump...re-buildable ????

    It looks like the water pump on my 300Tdi Defender has a collapsed bearing.
    Tell tale splats of bearing grease, lots of nasty grinding noise and visible side to side movement of the water pump pully and belt.
    Before I start pulling things off, I just thought I'd ask if the water pumps are re-buildable or are they a throw away item ??

    Throw away Murray, usually at that point the housing is ruined too. They aren't pricey at all, make sure you get a Genuine quality one though, and advisable to fit a new 'P' gasket at the same time.

    Thanks JC,
    Just had a quick look on Ebay. Can get a UK built pump and gasket for ~$90+post, so you're right, not too pricey, and now I've seen pictures of both sides of a pump it looks like they are pressed together, so not worth the bother.

    Might want a new set of bolts for it as well, often corroded.

    Yeah, the bolts were looking a bit sad. As usual when we tackle things like this, all the bolts came undone easily....EXCEPT FOR ONE STUBBORN B******....probably took an extra hour to do the job because of one bolt..........




    That's why I'm a fan of Anti Seize for this type of thing.............
