V8 disco start up rattle
Hi All,
Just a quick question, my 95 V8 (which is in pretty poor shape) has recently started to make a clattery rattle when started from cold, this seems to get less once the engine is warm, but doesn't seem to go altogether. Doesnt seem like a tappit rattle sound, just wandered if anyone had any ideas, seems to be coming from nearside section of the engine.
Performance doesn't seem too hampered, she does stalk occasionally, and a couple of weeks ago the oil pressure switch gave up and dumped most of the oil. Although the rattle started before that.
Any thoughts?
Cheers.

Commonly the bolts fall out of the exhaust manifolds after a while, then the gasket can blow. Try tightening all the bolts first, then look for missing gaskets or cracked exhaust manifold.

common Rover issues include blocked oil pick up starving pump of oil, worn out oil pump, excessive cam clearance or rockers worn out or blocked lifters. Some say a good oil flush may resolve lifter rattle, but if the motor is 'high' milage say aroung 170 to 200K then it is likely to be wear. May pay to drop the sump and check out the pick up anyway. But beware, oil pump priming can be a PIA to restore.
