    Salisbury diff question ?

For those who have a landrover that has a sailsbury diff I was wondering is there a way to adjust backlash in the diff ? the problem is when I depress the clutch and take drive away the rear end clunks and feels as though there is alot of movement ...
I am thinking the ball joint may also be causing some of the movement also but just wondering for peoples input?

I'd be looking at the condition of the axles and flanges, and the A frame ball joint. The Sals is pretty bulletproof but as Dobbo said, if the pinion flange is 'loose' then that will need attention.

Id also check the unis and drive flanges at the huibs before chasing a diff noise,

Backlash is adjusted via shims under the pinion head and shims beside the carrier bearings...more than likely axle slop, a-frame balljoint

check backlash by rotating the pinion, should be a faint clunk, which is pinion to crownwheel backlash, then the following 3453turns and imoveable clunk is the rest

The Sals is pretty good, I'd be checking the A-frame ball joint, the axles, the pinion flange and the unis first

    Cheers
