Does anyone know the rules regarding RWC's in Victoria? Does all saftey gear have to work if it is fitted? In the UK, an MOT must check all safetly equipment.
The reason I ask is because It appears the airbag system on my Disco 1 is not working - no light comes on when you turn on the powere, it says in the Haynes manual it should come on for 5 to 8 secconds. This car just passed it's RWC less than a week ago - should this not have been checked?
I another life I used to issue RWC's in Victoria. The SRS system must be fully functional including the lamp/bulb check on start up for a vehicle to pass RWC in Victoria.
Check to see if the bulb just hasn't blown first. This may save you a lot of drama.
If the bulb has been removed well that is another matter altogether.
I would nicely remind the person who sold you the car that the RWC is null & void and if you don't get any satisfaction a call to Vicroads might help but it also may give you trouble transferring it.
Let us know how you go.
You called it. The bulbs have been removed. What do I do now?
Also, the drivers side seat belt does not retract, you have to feed it in manually, I understand this is also a fail?
You may have seen in other threads that this car has loads of faults on it - I baught it from a "mate" who told me it was in excellent condition - everything works, he told me, several times!
I have been done good and propper on this, the list of faults is growing by the day.
From my understanding, the issuer of the RWC is responsible to fix it, however, in my experience, finish the transfer of the rego and fix it yourself.
Less angst.
So whats thr rules on this officially? This guy has really taken the mickey out of me, and I have been totally ripped off. Is there any way I can throw the book at him and his dodgy mate?
Agreed, get it in your name, get the paperwork done and dusted and then sort out what you want working. You can wind up in a whole word of pain if it's retested and it needs thousand and thousands spent to get it above board.
I've seen the pics in the other thread, she's pretty, once you've sorted a few niggling problems it'll be a good car.
Yeh, I'm torn between my anger and being pragmatic.
On the one hand I could take advantage of the fact I have a RWC and just put it in my name, on the other hand I could kick up a fuss, but he could dig his heels in and then I'm stuck with the bills. But then on the other hand Vicroads might throw the book at them and I get a bunch of work done for free? Possibly..?
I could take it to AMV, they said they would do a pre purchase inspection for $130. I could then do the work to fix it myslef (But I will need a whole heap of help from you all!)
Sooo dissapointed! I was promised a fantastic car....![]()
Dont be disappointed, an optimisic way of looking at it is you do have a fantastic car, theres just a few things in the way of it being one right now.
I bought a Kawasaki Zephyr this time last year, had the mandatory roadworthy certificate with all the boxes ticked, I didnt know jack about bikes then, know more about them now incidently, but the bike cost me almost the purchace price again to get on the road! ... I was going to take them thru a row of shytehouses with selling a vehicle under false pretences and falsifying a legal document yadda yadda yadda ... at the end of the day, it would have been a truck load more hassle than what it would have been worth, id have been with out a bike for longer, no doubt would have had to fix more on top of what I had already and would be in no better position for it ...
Lesson is: Life gives you lemons, so rack up some salt, take a shot, suck it up and carry on.
That bike was the best damn bike in the world after I had done what I did to it, it never missed a beat, handled like a dream and not once gave up on me, even when i rode the thing through pouring rain the first 3 weeks of having it on the road.
Hope it works out for ya bud, you have done a brilliant job of getting where you have so far!![]()
