Trailer light + Ipod = WTF?

G'day all, I finally figured out today why at idol my trailer light on the dash flashes non-stop.

It only occurs when my Ipod FM transmitter is transmitting. When the Ipod is disconnected the light does not show flicker at all.

I have seen a similar thing with military vehicles fitted with intercoms, some vehicles alternators cause squealing in the intercom harness that is easly fixed by putting earth wires on everything in the comms harness.

I would I be right in thinking that the Ipod transmitter's radio waves would be interfering with the body control module or computer?

Any one else had this at all?

I'll try a different frequency for the Ipod to transmit on.

    Cheers Easo

Sounds very feasible. RF energy can do wonders to sensitive electronics. A friend of mine had a Mercedes and every time he went past Radio Australia that put out a couple of hundred kilowatts the car would begin to sputter and engine light would come on and it would go into limp mode! Be interesting to know the frequency that it is happening on. I would say the FM transmitter is also sending out some spurious noise as well and wont be a perfect signal on the FM Radio band, maybe a harmonic is getting into the wiring for the BCU. Would love to find out some more about it. I am looking at fitting my ham radio gear to my disco soon and I hope some of the freq I transmit on dont play havok with the BCU or ECU for that matter as I can transmit a lot more than a 5W CB radio

you need a 100W transmitter thats piping on the frequencey of the bus or the CPU, the bus is easier as its not as well shielded as the CPU.

you also need to be close.... but the more power you whip up the stick the further you can be.
