    Hi Mal,
I did it cold and they just undid no drama, as I said give it a gentle go and see what happens.

He swears that the engine to pump timing was out and he has sorted that part of it out. The sound--yes it has changed dramatically!! much quieter- so do I deduce from your comment that the timing needs advancing? this could be it!! thanks very much for the input I will ask him to sort it out (proffessionals hey!!!) Yes I did have the pump you mention as well is it worth anything?

    Thanks

Mal, the timing is most likely retarded then, this WILL reduce power output, AND increase exhaust temps dramatically at the turbocharger, possibly damaging it if driven hard enough.
Plunger lift should be 1.54mm @ TDC (factory), we increase this to 1.6mm and it improves the throttle response and overall driveability a lot.

Remember, a QUIET Tdi is a RETARDED Tdi.

Thanks so much for the advice I will be seeing the "expert" tomorrow. Is the "old" pump at 60000km worth any thing? So even though the low end power is possibly double what it was before, i could barely pull off with the air con on, I can now do this in 2nd gear, these adjustments will not destroy this part of the drivability?
    Thanks again

    Thumbs up 300tdi power upgrade

hi all with my 98 110 tdi had the same prob so fitted the intercooler up
grade with better radiator increesed the fuel a fraction enough not to
blow excessive smoke near none unless under heavey throttle.
fitted a pyro meter only temp rises were around town maybe 5 deg.
but can be controlled runs great the difference is very noticable
hope ajusting the fuel pump was the right thing to do

I'd say your pump is deffinately worth $$, 60kkm is not that much.

From what I understand the best way to get the optimum performance out of the Tdi without Diesel gas is to have the fuel pump tweeked, larger free flowing exhaust and a larger intercooler. There is also an intake mod that Bruce Davis recommends with the fuel pump tweek to get more air in to match the extra fuel going in which boosts it even more.

Don't know about BD but I used an 80 or 85mm ID convoluted duct between the snorkel and air cleaner, and also cut the snorkel outlet back as the standard ID of it is only 53mm.

I also use a Donaldson air cleaner element instead of the 300Tdi style, as per http://www.aulro.com/afvb/technical-...s-finally.html
