    maxidrive rear locker wont disengage.

I have just fitted a maxidrive rear locker( from a donor defender) on my 98 defender 110 wagon (salisbury diff).
    It engaged but wont disengage.
It is making all the right noises but not behaving.

Also the light doesn't come on.
Which wire do I connect to.
I tapped into the white wire going to the ignition switch. Is that right??

    HELP

Ps. how do I remove a post , as somehow this ended up on tutorials??????????

did you swap the whole axle assembly or just the locker parts?

how do you know if it has engaged or not?

    swapped whole axle assembly.

Tested by lifting one wheel off ground out of gear and it wont rotate.

Are you sure the halfshafts are OK and not twisted???

Sometimes MD lockers don't disengage immediately.

It worked OK on the bench.

I drove in reverse then forwards for a few metres.

I can hear the actuater moving.

Had that happen on mine once. The grubscrew holding the fork to the hhaft had come loose when the diff lock was in. The shaft moves switching the light off and on but the selector stays engaged.

    All sorted.

I don't think the fork was lined up with the collar properly.
Pulled it out, checked operation of actuator and put it back in and it is locking and unlocking as it should.
    Phew!

The light didn't come on as I think the switch in the actuator housing doesn't seem to be working.
Will have a look at it tomorrow.

Thanks to you guys who responded.

There is not really a switch. From memory, there is a small (insulated) bolt, which, when the actuator piston(?) contacts it, transmits -ve to the light. If the locker is engaging fully and touching the bolt, then corrosion may be the reason.

I had a fiddle with the switch or bolt or whatever it is .
I undid the circlip but couldn't get the actuator cylinder thing apart.
    Too hard basket.
Took it for a drive and it works.
It just takes a little while for the light to come on and go off sometimes.

So there was nothing wrong after all.

Now lets see how it works this weekend as there is plenty of mud around at the moment.
Might give the CREB track a miss.
It's been closed for a while and really bad when it's wet. Already lost one Defender there.

    Cheers
    Jon
