    Hi Runamuck,
If you have checked all the unions for tightness, on the pressure side of the pump, have a look at the pump itself. they have been known to leak around the gasket.Try tightening the nut that holds the glass bowl in place. Other than that you may have to service the pump.

Have a look where it is leaking! Likely places are:-

    1. Rusted fuel tank.
    2. Loose fuel sender, fuel suction fitting, dipstick, filler hose or vent hose on top of tank - these will leak when tank is full or when on tough ground.
    3. If dual tanks fitted - fuel tap or unions on it.
    4. Fuel line to pump or unions on it.
    5. Fuel pump strainer gasket.
    6. Fuel pump diaphragm
    7. Fuel line to carburetter - fittings in particular.
    8. Carburetter - flooding due to worn needle valve or faulty float

The remedy depends on the problem, but first find where it is. If it is just a smell of fuel in the cab, then the leaks on top of the tank are likely.

Lol....I just read my thread. It has started leaking from the fuel tank some where. Sorry about that and thanks for your time and advice too.

See 1 and 2 above! The most likely, however, is that a hole has rusted in it. You can either repair the hole or replace the tank. A search on this site should help, starting with "the Good Oil".

    Thanks John.

I have a side mount petrol tank. How is this tank removed? Having a little trouble at the moment.

It is mounted on two chassis outriggers, front and back. There are two or three bolts each end, which seeing that they have been done up for probably forty years, and are exposed to the mud off the road, you will probably have to twist off. In addition you will have to disconnect the filler and breather hoses on top, and the fuel suction line (and return if a diesel) and the wire to the gauge. There may also be an earth wire.

    Hope this helps,

All done. The bolts were well hidden with mud etc, and of course there was one that was completely buggered.
