12v +ve usually goes to the top pin, the unit your powering to the centre pin and earth to the bottom pin.
The LED takes it's power from the incoming source power and operates by referencing to the ground parallel to the accessory. As an LED is a diode, the polarity needs to be correct or it won't work however the switch will still.
The markings should actually be alongside the pinouts....
