    200dti engine won't rev

Hi, my defender was running fine, it wasn't used for a week or so, started up normally, but as soon as it is given any throttle, it revs for a short while then just dies, it will tick over slightly erratically indefinitely.

I have changed the fuel filter, lift pump, sender unit and repaired a couple of rat holes in the fuel pipe by the tank. I have isolated the air filter. None of these have made any difference. There isn't a sediment filter as yet.

Any ideas? The only thing I haven't checked is the injection pump, it looks like it might have some sort diaphragm in the top where the pipe is which goes to the Turbo, but i don't want to start fiddling with the injection pump unless I have a good idea of the likely problem.

Engine is very low K's so everything should be good, got me puzzled.

    Could it be lacking oxygen?
Check induction pipes from airbox to inlet manifold.

You only need fuel & oxygen to make fire. You could check it gets fuel to each injector by carefully loosening the unions at the injectors. The erratic idle could be fuel or air, IME dying at revs is usually air?

If you have rats then they may have made a nest in the airbox or inlet to the airbox. A mate had a similar problem with his motorcycle...when we looked into it all the crap they had chewed was for building a nest in the air intake.

It'll be the rubber pipe between the turbo and the intercooler sucking shut. When you open the throttle, there is vacuum before the boost comes on. This will suck the pipe shut, killing the engine before it can make any boost.

Start the engine with the bonnet up and rev up the engine whilst keeping an eye on the pipes. It's a fairly common tdi300 problem, so surely it can happen to a tdi200 as well.

Replace the pipe with a blue silicone one from supercrap or the equivalent.

Thank's for the information, I will check out the induction/turbo pipes. Airbox is Ok.
