You might be better putting this in the Series 3 section or tech to get better exposure, however I would have thought 100,000m (160,000km) is a bit low to start having major issues with a LT95 transfer case.

So by "upgraded" do you mean tapered roller bearings or higher gearing. Not sure of the former - they do come up from time to time.

If the second - out of a wrecked RR or most aftermarket landie suppliers in Aust can get them 4wds in Melbourne advertise them in their catalogue but they are exoensive.

hi Garry, sorry i didn't clarify i am looking for the taper roller transfer shaft. i am pushing low 200 bhp and 33inch tyres (stock 1 tone set up) I have a tendance to be a bit hard on the pedal so with this amount of shock loading on the shaft it isn't going to last much longer.I understand that a few companys in Australia made an up graded transfer shaft set up for the isuzu powerd trucks (if it wasn't so hard to find the bit's i would be running an isuzu in mine)

you may want to think long and hard about the cost and if it relay worth it

as i understand it, the taper roller kit replaces copper thrust washers with taper roller bearings.
i am also under the impression that the army felt that thay had problems with the thrust washers because. 1 the higher gearing put a higher load on the thrust washers creating a bit to much heat and accelerated wear. this higher gearing and long highway work. 2 tomany army types were filling both gearbox and transfer case with what that thought was normal gearbox oil " EP" unfortunately some EP eat ( corrode) copper when hot.

so the taper roller bearing kit was devised as a solution. but they had some problems. 1 any over tolerances/ wear will lead to total bearing fail which leads to a flat deck home. 2 it was bloody expensive 3 it didnt work, readyness was reduced so thay stoped installing the kits and whent back to the trust bearings.
at least if the thrust bearing flogs out you will still get home.

but it begs the question, at your klms you shouldn't be having any problems at all

thanks for the reply 85 county. i have been thinking long and hard about the convertion. my usual part supply in the UK offers the kit in all ratios but has run out and is unsure when they will be geting more (NK recovery) . from what i have been reading the Australian military convertion (tapper roller replacing thrust washers and needl roller bearings) had a few short comings (shiming and instalation) but the later after market kits employed a few improvements to fix this. As for my mileage no it's not high but i has had a very hard life, the g/box is out now to replace some broken teeth and i have 4 vehicles all running the same box but differant power plants it would be nice to try the convertion and compare.

I have been running a military type tapered roller bearing intermediate shaft in my LT95 for 17years and over 700K now with zero problems behind a turbo 4BD1. The only problems I have seen with these setups is damage to the engaging dogs on hi and lo gears from overzealous drivers who can't be bothered coming to a stop before selecting gear. Recently I pulled the shaft out to check everything and found it was still in excellent condition. They can be had for less than a grand in good used condition. A member on here recently sold a complete gearbox with one installed for $800.
    Cheers......Brian

If its done 100 thousand Miles it is well overdue to be reshimed.
A TRC wll assist with its longevity but you cant retain your existing high range unless you get the high gear modified. Run some decent oil reshim it and wait the TRC kits will get more accessible and cheaper in time I suspect.
Oh and learn to drive with a little more sympathy.

thanks for the info, does any body know who actualy makes or made the kits. If i found a box with the kit in i am presuming that it would be set up for the isuzu engine,( i can only dream of being able to pick one of those up).
