    EGR and Exhaust Manifold

Has taken more than 1 day :-)

Took out the exhaust manifold - shocked at the condition of the rear 2 Studs, who ever did the manifold last buggered up the threads and just used some epoxy looking gunk to "repair" the threads and used tubes & tubes of silicone to take up the warpage of the manifold.

Cleaned that all up, sent the manifold off to be de-webbed and skimmed, got it back yesterday - looks fantastic.

Last night did the EGR Blanking plate with a Terrafirma kit, tonight will helicoil the threads, replace ALL studs and tomorrow give my D2 TD5 a good service, and then a run down to Gippsland!

just fitted a double auxiliary power socket in my glove box (one socket wired to the auxiliary circuit and one wired to the second battery) as well as a 12v battery charger so my handheld UHF will always have full batteries.

also just found out I have an Old Man Emu suspension kit. it measures 525mm from the centre hub to the arch so I don't know if it is actually a lift kit or not, but still happy to have found another thing I don't have to buy...Sweeeeet.

Past three arvos spent chasing an oil leak that appeared to be coming from the rear of the passenger side head, turned out to be a stuffed rubber seal at the back under the valley gasket. I'd already nought a new pair of head gaskets from RoverParts anyway so I put them in at the same time. A cursory glance dictated that the next big job will be the cam.

Tomorrow will be a few gaskets on the t'case, new speedo cable while I'm at it, and inspecting the hand brake drum, methinks the return springs r knackered.

Spent half the day fixing the handful of things that the D1 failed it's roadworthy on.

    It needed:
The two side indicators needed fixing on.
The front wheel bearings needed adjusting
The fuel tank breather hose had to be replaced as it was cracked
The battery clamp needed tightening up
And there was an oil leak from around the oil pressure sender and oil filter.

Not bad for a 14 year old car.

    Retrim and reverse camera

I retrimed the fronts seats using an Exmoor retrim kit. So the seats now look brand new again. The seat back foam just crumbled into a pile of dust when I removed it. Now the seats feel quite firm and and are actually comfortable now!
Also fitted the reverse camera kit I got for Christmas. I fitted the camera above the tow ball so it's right in line for hooking the camper up. Also the kit can be switched on so you can have a review on while driving which I like as I have no review from the mirror anyway!!

    Cheers

    Nino

What a pi**er! Pulled the centre console out to help with replacing some tired t'case gaskets only to find the gaskets in question require removing and partially dismantling the t'case itself. All because of two bolts, one fouled by the transmission sump, the other fouled by a large bolt and nut which I assume holds part of the t'case together. After all that work it's a job for another day when I'm confident enough to rebuild the t'case.

On the plus side, while the centre console was out I managed to free up the stuck handbrake cable and get some oil down it to prevent it ceasing again for another while.

Nozzle for the 3D printer should arrive this week, so the rest of the day will be spend 3D modelling replacement interior plastics.

On the 110 removed and cleaned the connection to the starter solenoid main terminal. Hopefully this fixes the intermittent starter problem, otherwise I'll have to pull the starter off and pull the solenoid apart - which is a real pain!

Fitted one of Nuggets fairleads and swapped to rope.

So if anybody has a use for a roller fairlead or 45m of 5/16 steel rope let me know

It was due for a service so while it had no oil in it I decided to drop the sump and replace the oil pump bolt.

Gave it a two inch lift whilst I was at it.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."
