As mentioned in another post, this morning planned a test drive on the 2a after replacing the handbrake shoes. The engine ran like a hairy goat when idling, and seemed to be flooding. A new carby had been fitted only a couple of weeks ago.

A little thought suggested a leaky float, and this is what it turned out to be. The supplier is sending me a replacement float (they wanted to replace the carby, but that was overkill), and in the meantime I fitted the float out of the old carby. Fixed the problem.

Later made and fitted a bracket to hold the GPS.

Got a scraping noise in the rear suspension fxed. Several inspections had failed to find anything loose, but it persisted and I was worried something was about to break. It turned out to be simply a dry bush and the workshop also greased everything in sight. End of noise.
Also got the non-responding driver's side rear door fixed so it works on the remote. Turned out to be broken wires in the conduit between the door and the body post. Soldered and wrapped in protective plastic and it now works fine. Thanks JustinC for the hint.
Small jobs, but worthwhile. I can now head off camping over Christmas confident all is well.

Got a set of new plug leads made up and fitted to the D1 V8. The old leads did not seem to be in bad nick but I was getting a bit of radio interference. The new leads have made a surprising difference in the smoothness of the engine generally and its willingness to rev out. Very happy with the results for $150 cost!

    Hi,
Had a look around the Puma heater air intake, released about 200mL of rain water from the valve that doesn't do what it should.
Also found the wonky sponge gasket between the heater unit and air intake was way out of position. I'm hoping that may be the source of hot air when the heater tap is off.
    Not very well designed.
    Cheers

Yesterday took the 2a into town to get a pink slip. No problems, no issues, behaved faultlessly, although I think the new carbie may be down a tad on performance, although that could be due to having the sides of the canvas rolled up for better visibility when parking, resulting in increased drag. Maximum speed is barely 100kph, normally a little faster. I'll have to make sure the throttle is fully opening.

Today refitted to the County an aircon pipe that I got silver soldered on Saturday. It had rubbed through on the chassis and been repaired last summer, but had a tiny pinhole in the repair. I bent it so it does not touch the chassis. I will get it regassed when in town next week.

attempted to change a coolant outlet on my D3. EGR pipes drew that job to a halt so ended up giving it a coolant flush instead

Did some more welding to the 2a chassis. Then some grinding. Had to move the rear rotisserie mount to access the tow plate area so i can cut a square out of the rear x member to insert a square hitch receiver to use as a recovery point to tow out land cruisers and pootrols and a few mitsi's.....
Then im gonna weld a ve towbar to the front chassis so the square receiver will b under the front bar to use as a recovery point for a few other makes...jeep comes to mind...
Then its of to the sandblasters to get cleaned and painted.
    The chassis that is

    Cheers Rod
