I undid 2 of the unis, one front one back and greased the drive shafts. Extension piece on one front nipple had fallen out so replaced that. They make greasing the front shaft so much easier.
Rear nipples don't seem to want to take grease even though I removed nipples and dug grease out. Wonder if it's because unis are already full?

Buried it towing the camper on the sand of Flinders Beach on Straddie. Must remember to check more carefully next time before making sudden decisions to turn hard left into camping areas. We got it out using Treads without needing snatching. Its going to need a very thorough high pressure hosing to get all the sand out when we get back.

Parts store said they will contact the supplier to find out what can be done. Seems the fan may have been on display in the sun and gone brittle. Prob just an excuse. See what happens after xmas.Quote:

More welding on the s2a chassis. Finally finished welding i think. Finished off the front tow/recovery point...now waiting for sandblasters to open up after xmas break then off to get blasted and painted...thinking gloss black. Maybe satin black. The body will be painted olive drab. Hmmm will think it over till it goes there.

A few of those almost completed tasks completed on the D4.
Finished the rear Anderson connector for the caravan/trailer/12V stuff with a flush mount assembly replacing the unused White socket.
Tidied up some item storage with a couple of small cargo barrier bags and straps. Basic recovery gear along with gloves, rags, rubbish bags, wet weather gear now easy to reach and not in the way.
Installed 2 small fire extinguishers to the cargo area divider (dog one side, bags and storage the other), not ideal but better than nowhere and can be reached from the rear seat as well as from the rear.
Fitted new rubber buffers to the ARB front bar, although I might yet remove them as they seem to promote rust around the mounting holes.
Fitted the left over D3 intercooler protection plate (GOE) over the lower panel of the ARB bar.
Didn't get around to finishing the UHF or brake controller yet - getting closer ;-)

Found my overheating problem the one that blew my heater core on the way home from buying the bloody thing. (The mechanic that spend two days sourcing and fitting the 2nd hand heater core, didnt bother looking for the source of the problem.)
I just replaced the 77% blocked radiator with a nice new copper one, and a new water pump/coupling.
Now for the rest of it....
A few days ago actually.
Replaced the turbo hoses on the Defender with black silicon ones - surprisingly, after 12 years the originals are still in good condition so have been relegated to the spares box.
Also fitted a Mulgo rear door gas strut which I've had for a few years. Can't understand why I didn't fit it earlier as it makes opening and keeping open the door so easy. I can really recommend these to anyone with a Defender, especially if you still have the spare tyre mounted on the door. :thumbsup:
Then I took it for a run with a few friends (including some international visitors) through some Aussie bush tracks to visit some very nice interesting places around the Newnes Plateau area.
