Just about finished the rebuild of my County's front diff/axles etc. All fitted up bar the propshaft. All okay except the reinforced, welded heavily rebuilt diff pan leaks cold oil faster than it leaked hot oil straight after the diff disaster. I'm going to have to pull both hubs assemblies and the diff carrier to be able to fix it.
I'm shattered. So frustrated and disheartened that I won't be driving any of my damned cars again this year by the looks of things.
over the last week i put on wing top guards, an ex-box and today i finished the week of LR work with an EGR removal kit :D
It's like christmas already
Thanks Roger. Are you handy with a welder?
I've done a bit in my time but not too good with awkward positions and only have a 'stick' welder.
I'll give you a call shortly and see what the repair entails and what we can do.
Spent some time after dinner, using a cutoff wheel in a Dremal tool, cutting one of the sides off the conrod journal. Must get a picture to show of this one! The con-rod is totally offset to one side.Quote:
Tried to pull number one piston out of - 300TDi engine, no good as the conrod is too bent to pass up through the bore.
This motor I now know was damaged by the turbo going to pieces, as there were pieces of the turbo bearings in the sump.
I replaced every single coolant hose, and the Heater Matrix on my D2, what a lot of work!
Finished it all today, went for a drive and noticed still small leak on O Ring on Heater Matrix, but now I know what I am doing that will be a 30 minute job, then noticed that on one hose where I decided to reuse a silly Landrover clamp I have a leak, and ........ I forgot to put the Fan Shroud back in.
Luckily the annoying little leak would have needed the fan out anyway to get to it so no big deal about the fan shroud.
Although a really tiring experience it was worthwhile, as I took all the engine bay "bits and bobs" out and so was able to have a really good look at the engine bay. I now know that this rime next year I will replace the Oil Housing Cooler, and most probably the water pump (pitting on the outlets)
Frustrating that I have to do some pieces again tomorrow but the experience and confidence gained makes it all worthwhile.
Replaced leaking PAS pump, fitted mudflaps, got all the lights working, fixed fuel leak from water sensor at filter, changed seatbelt and spent 20 mins convincing inspector that the ABS light on a 2003 td5 defender is SUPPOSED to stay on until vehicle reaches 10km/h or so.....finally found reference in owners handbook, page 42 if anyone is looking, to get re-registered after an unwanted but necessary year off the road. Phew! Now to get a set of plates at the RTA......probably take as long as doing the repairs did :-)
The wife phoned up this afternoon about 2.30 Pm, "My Daisy is grumbling" was told to Me, She went on to say that our 1994 Discovery wasn't happy and something is wrong!
After a little calming down of the better half, I decided that it was not a good thing to drive the Disco much further, as the noise had come on very quickly.
I told her to drive over to her work place, which is about a kilometre from the nursing home where the test pilot now stays, then leave it there until I could do something about it, the Disco I mean!
The Daisy Disco finally came home at 5.00 Pm although on the back of a tilt tray and with the wife at still at work, she'll thumb a ride home with one of the other workers, ( I hope ) sure enough the water pump was kicking up one hell of a din and so it's shift the tools over from the other job and a start to dismantling the problem.
Things don't last like they used to, we have only got 516,000 Kilometres out of Daisy's water pump!
Edit;
Well! To get out a couple of the bolts from the water pump housing, the pulley for the steering pump has to come off first, 2 of 3 of it's bolts came out without much trouble, the third one is still there!
I use 222 locktite or screwlock when I assemble my jobs, so it does look like there was still some old threadlock in the threads and now the head of the bolt is starting to round off'
Job for first thing in the morning now, is to concentrate some heat with a touch on the bolt head to soften the threadlock. ------- to be continued
