fitted a speco temp gauge and learnt that the thermostat sticks, i reckon thats why the head gasket went. The factory gauge did not even move when the spec gauge was reading 120, it would just rocket up, pulled over to the side of the road and watched the gauge after a few minutes it came back down, all the while the factory gauge sat happily at the halfway mark

How'd you go with getting a gauge calibrated to the resistance of the sender? I've been considering a temp gauge as well but have been putting it off cos I want to make sure I get one that's compatible.

After having the Defender (Hector) off the road for a couple of weeks fitting new flooring, 2 days of driving and I noticed a diesel leak - lift pump gone! Ordered a new one and it arrived a couple of days latter - fitted it and everything looked good but Hector would not start! Finally walked away (fuming) read everything I could on this forum, scratched my head and had another go this morning. Everything seemed fine, bleeding fine, but still nothing!
Finally thought "it must be something else"! Thats when I found the loose wire - the electronic cut off switch! (whatever the real name is). Got the torch found where it came from and ... Hector started straight away! Learning all the time.

Found a big pool of red oil under the D1 this morning. Top transmission cooling pipe had come loose. Tightened it and all good.

Checked front end as it is going in for a new tyres and an alignment next week. Found one tie rod with a bit of play, so got a new one to fit over weekend.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Walked over to the front end that was pulled out of 'Rusty Bob' , have found that there was one tidy chromed swivel pin ball housing that can be put to good use in one of the restorations.

CAT Batteries are good and reasonably priced!
Been using them for many years now and very happy with their performance.

    Cheers, Mick.

Yep I got the CAT because of the always reliable advice on here (and my expert use of the search function).

    She's a fair weapon the big 1000!
