Thread: Are these parts correct for a 1997 300Tdi (Disco)?

    Are these parts correct for a 1997 300Tdi (Disco)?

    Hi, I would appreciate if someone in the know could check if these are the correct parts before I order (paddocks). I have selected "late type" for all parts, the changeover seems to have been 95/96, so a disco plated 97 should definitely be post changeover??? (can't go and check at present).

    Also - should I get the elring gasket set and separate head bolts, or the other set with head bolts included??? (I will get an elring head hasket either way).

    Is the P gasket included with the OE water pump? (I cannot find a separate listing for it)

    Paddocks are usually on the ball - if it says 300tdi, then you should not have changeover point problems. With the exception of the head and timing belt tensioner ( and then it's just a better design that fits in the similar ways), the other bits have remained the same throughout the 300tdi run.

    As to the p gasket- usually not supplied with a water pump, but it does vary I've seen kits on ebay uk offered with and without them. They're easy enough to locate here.

    Ben I wonder if by 'headgasket set - does not include head gasket' they are meaning the gasket set for when replacing the head. Or upper engine gasket set.

    This would include rocker cover seal, bolt seals, thermostat gasket, PCV oring and maybe injector/glowplug washers. If so it would be handy.

    Pgasket doesnt seem to be included in that list???

    Also include a timing belt idler, I think you only have the tensioner listed. I assume your disco has the proper machined & lipped crank gear?

    Maybe grab a set of 8 push rod lash caps.They wear quickly enough to warrant putting new ones in once you bolt your old rocker gear onto the new head.

    How are your coolant hoses? May as well get the order up close to the $1000 import limit.

    Thanks Steve. I believe the gasket set is basically a VRS kit without the head gasket. Thanks for the tip on the idler and the lash caps. The belt was replaced recently and I think everything was done then...

    The $1000 limit includes shipping AFAIK???

    I think my intercooler hoses are a bit spongy. Should I go rubber or silicone?

    EDIT - I can't for the life of me find the p-gasket listed on the paddocks website???

    Serpentine belt could be 1580 or 1595. Likely to be 1580 being a 97 unless someone has changed the alternator or pulley.

    My understanding is the legislation is the $1000 is exclusive of freight BUT customs being customs will sometimes charge GST ect etc includinig freight.
    Maybe run it with freight to the 1g limit to be safe.

    For the intercooler hoses get whatever you can. Im sure if you buy fancy blue silicone ones you will get an extra 5hp though

    Ben, just email Paddocks with the extra bits you want that aren't listed, they'll email you back the part numbers and price. Oh and they don't have the oem turbo hoses, i ordered stuff last week and they said they don't stock them.
    Could also try Turner for the head, apparently its a much better thing

    Thanks - I called and they said that.

    The (stock) head from turners is an extra 115GBP!!! Or are you talking about the performance/flowed head?
