Why go for a bodgy set up? surely there are many options from other cars that could be jury rigged.

Yes i do agree 100%, but when i've seen the price for OEM ones and that out fit called "Britpart" and the crap they sell is shocking.

This is the part code Buy Rotary Encoders Rotary position resistive sensor,5kohm Vishay 971-0002 online from RS for next day delivery.

I'm going to see if it works, what other ideas are there?

It's also a D shaft so not going to fit the butterfly.

The useable ones have already been pointed out, why do so many people need to try and reinvent the wheel all the time???

OK I just spent a couple of hours researching cross references for the TPS for 3.9.
    Here is what I found.
The TPS is unique to Rover V8 14CUX 3.5 and 3.9 up to 94 .From a US site the picture of the 95 90 V8 TPS shows a different connector.

The only difference between the flapper TPS and the 14CUX TPS apperas to be that the flapper one has slotted holes for voltage adjustment..
However there are two alternatives to ETC 8495.
    These are Lucas SEB207
    and Intermotor TH352

The Lucas SEB 207 at GBP 120 from LR Direct seems to be the cheapest best quality

The Britpart at GBP 80 but this is probably the Intermotor TH352 which the yanks are charging USD209 for.

On The subject of TPS's could someone have a look at their D11 V8 and tell me what the pinouts are on the Thor Bosch TPS.

There are three pins marked 3-2 -1 L to R on the Bosch TPS.

I am pretty sure 3 is signal but 2 can either be 5V or earth depending on the application.
If you can also dig up a wiring diagram it can be confirmed by looking at the colours going to the ECU. One will be 5V one probably a common earth and one signal in.
The reason I ask is that I have a Thor manifold on my 3.9 , but I have grafted a 14CUX TPS onto it, and unfortunately butchered the throttle shaft. It may be cheaper for me to buy another throttle body and use the Thor TPS I have than buy a $200 14CUX TPS. Thor Bosch TPSs are cheap as chips and used by many cars.

    hi philip,

unfortunately my car with the thor conversion is in another state. looking at part of a photo i have it looks like the blue cable which comes FROM the 14cux tps goes to pin 2 on the thor. (this is red/black on the 14cux car loom). i would hazard a guess from a bit of loom i cut off and have in a box here at home that i put the brown FROM the 14cux tps into pin 3 on the thor tps. (this would be red on the 14cux car loom).

i don't recall there being a prob using the thor tps, from memory i had to elongate the holes far more than on the 14cux tps to get the idle voltage adjustment to around 330mV.

i didn't have the pinouts but worked it out with a dmm though i do recall easily confusing myself.

hth but apologies if i got it wrong. i can ring the place where my car is on monday to find out exactly if you want.

    brett.

    I am very confused now.
My 14CUX has green=earth goes to terminal 7 on 40 pin plug

yellow =5 volts goes to terminal 3 on 40 pin plug

red=signal goes to terminal 20. so that looks OK

Blue???? You reckon that might be green to terminal 2???
    Brown ??? =yellow?

    brett.

i can remember setting these on the 3.5s.......the figure we were given to use from land rover was 325mV......so that is very close.......

but i think on the 3.9s they were no longer adjustable....?

i may even have one laying around.......ill go and have a quick look.......

Philip – sorry, they are different colours on my car’s loom. It’s a disco 98 though I see the colours you mention on the pinouts in a diagram for the 14cux 1990/91 for a rangie.

I hear what your saying, but i had to give it a go, when the dealer wanted nearly 520 USD for an LR OEM, i had nothing to loose and all that.

The pot turned up tonight, with slight mods it works to a fashion, a little better then whats on there, cant really moan its given 14 yrs long service!

Looking at the Penny & Giles unit, as that looks the GTI of TPS found an electronics company that will mod them to fit the Rover V8, correct voltage swing, mounting plate, terminal connectors, Deg etc, what would be the feedback if the price is correct?
