power window motor, OK to apply 12v to test?
One of my power windows has gone down but won't go back up.
I have checked inside the door for loose or damanged cables or connectors and cleaned any connections I could see, all seem fine.
I want to test the motor for the power window, it has a plug with only two wires, my thought was to apply 12v to the connector and see if the motor is dead.
It seems like a stupid question, yes it shold be OK but just wondered if the motor will be 12v, and it will make no difference which way I put the + and -
I have learned not to assume too much when it comes to land rovers
BTW its a 1994 Range Rover

Most power windows are always active and the switch goes to earth, so it may be a better idea to see if there is 12V there already with a multimeter, and if so earth the other terminal, and that will tell you whether the switch is Kaput.

I'll give it a go too, I just suspected the motor as neither the rear or front switch operate the window

Rangie classic switches are chronic gummer upperers, get some contact cleaner, pull switch out and hose with cleaner while operating
Also window motors have internal auto resetting CB's which play up and often come good with a bash
Applying direct 12v to the motors is fine
Also with back windows, they have contacts in series, so only takes one switch to play up

put power to the motor and the window went up
so seems its a switch or power break somewhere.
There are 5 contacts on the switch none or which had power.
