Hi Guys,
We have a Disco 3 HSE with the 3 sunroofs. Does anyone know how much UVA/UVB exposure comes through these panels??
Broadly speaking, UV-A is the more damaging one, does most of the skin wrinkling, deeper penetration due to longer wave-length, and more active in DNA damage to the skin cells which is Bad News...
UV-B stimulates Vitamin D production, and tanning. - If you MUST use a tanning bed, you want one that generates "B" ONLY.
Gentle tanning, has been shown to protect the skin from UVB-A and damage.... but the emphasis is on sensible, gentle tanning, NOT .....!
Ordinary window glass passes UVA, but blocks UVB.
- This is not good news if you want a gentle tanning... and even worse if you're worried about skin cancer or just wrinkling.
Office workers who are placed near a window can be more in danger than outdoor workers wearing hats and long sleeves...
I have no idea if automotive glass (toughened or laminated) has the same characteristics regarding UV-A/B as 'ordinary window glass' or 'plate glass'.
The tint - if any - in your roof glass may also absorb (or not...) UV-A/B
How MUCH UV gets through is something else again...
