Again, thanx 4 all the replies.
Might keep the D1 for non towing duties & get a dedicated tow vehicle.
Have'nt quite given up on finding a solution to my low down grunt issue, will keep searching.
Thing is, I bought the van to get away & relax a little. Dont really want the stress of reving the **** out it & dropping the clutch, or crunching the gearbox, shifting between low & high, time & time again.
Cheers Dean.
I was running 235's back when I was towing my shooting buggy over the blue mountains,a Daihatsu Scat with Hilux 2.2D running gear and I don't remember having an issue.I used to go up cherry tree hill in second but so did my mates Patrol and caravaners etc,out on the open country around Quombone it used to do 100 no worries. Pat
I still think somethings wrong with his engine,953 did you get the engine tuned after the upgrades,or at all?. Pat
Something doesn't sound right. I run 235/85 R16s in a 200tdi Defender, along with disco high range transfer case gears = a big difference. I tow a trak shak camper trailer when touring.
Off the line it does need a little bit of slipping the clutch, but it's not that bad UNLESS it's a decent hill start. My engine is stock standard, no tweaks at all.
It just doesn't sound right to me that is all......
