Leak - EGR heat exchanger leak
Well I'm in Melbourne today and noticed a small leak under car in morning. Went into Ritters Landrover and they tell me it appears the o-ring is leaking on the exchanger. It was suggested to remove the lot and fit EGR blanking kit. I'm not comfortable in fitting this myself. What would you guys suggest I do? I assume the new heater exchange unit will be costly. It's 2004 D2 TD5.

I would get rid of the EGR all together.
What it does is to pump a certain amount of your exhaust gases back into the motor, to be burnt again by the combustion process.
However, in a diesel, there are small particles of soot that are in the exhaust, and over time, these do the internals of the engine no good. Add to this the soot gums up the works on the butterfly valve that the EGR needs to work.
Doing it yourself isnt a big job. If you can turn a spanner & a screwdriver, you should be good to go. There are a couple of "how-to's" in The Good Oil.
As an added bonus, you may find you get better acceleration & fuel economy from getting rid of the very restrictive EGR.

Well, I had some further investigation and it appears its the fuel heat exchange unit, price for new unit was $980!!! So I have purchased the repair kit off ebay and going to fix it myself. Looks easy enough!
