    TD5 Radiator change - won't start

Greetings, wise ones. 2001 TD5 II, 145k on the clock.
I have just finished a radiator changeover and replace all cooling hoses. Now it won't start! I took the battery box out and the ECU module and found oil had leaked back through the main harness (the injector harness was changed a while ago). I cleaned out the two ECU terminal blocks (red & black) with a spray cleaner for electronic stuff. I had to unbolt the fuel cooler to get at the oil cooler return hose I did not disconnect the fuel hoses - but I have done the fuel bleed procedure, just in case. Now it's all back together the engine just will not start. All the electrical stuff works, even the three amigos pop in occasionally, the engine turns over on the starter but it just will not fire. There are no unusual warning lights, everything goes through the normal pre-start checks without a murmer - don't tell me I have stuffed the ECU

I don't know about the TD5 but the 200 Tdi has a electrical solenoid to the fuel pump which if not connected will not allow fuel in and so go for the donk.

The wire to this has come off once when I was fiddleing around under the bonnet doing maintenance works on the power steering and radiator leads

    Just a thought???????

Have you bumped the inertia relay located on the engine bay firewall passenger side. This will stop your fuel pump from operating. To reset, press the rubber boot at the top. If this trips, the hazard lights normally come on.

Another possibility for the starter turning over but not starting is a faulty connection to the crank angle sensor which is located at the top of the gearbox, close to the engine.

Fuel pump works OK, runs for the usual 30 seconds, then stops. The crank sensor is another thing I was worried about, I did have to remove the 2 bolts at the top of the flywheel housing (it's an auto) to get at the oil cooler return pipe hose clamps (now replaced with screw/worm drive clamps!!). Perhaps a good look around the top of the trans is called for.

The other thing no one has mentioned is that these vehicles will self immobilize themselves if left unattended and not locked with the key or fob. Try locking and unlocking it with the fob, and see if it starts then.
