There's only one t/case, the LT230, used from the late eighties to now so all I can suggest is that you make sure the car is level front to rear or slightly nose down and fill until oil spills from the fill hole.
Hi All
I changed the oil in the transfer case and according to the literature it should take about 2.3L, however it only took approximately 1.9L. So I had a look again and there about 3 different boxes, all of which have a capacity of 2.3L or over. Is there a case out there that only takes 1.9L?
How do you tell which case is in the vehicle?
bye all

I recently changed the oil in one of my LT230s. It only took about 2 litres too (vehicle dead level).
James.
thx,
i changed it on level ground, even if the capacity discrepancy was caused by uneven ground it would have to be on a severe slope to account for 400ml difference,
bye
Look for the serial number, somewhere on the casing. You may have had a residual of transmission oil in the box hence the amount needed was less than the maximum amount specified. Or, an alternative explanation, you filled up too quickly that the oil did not have time enough to settle and the box started to overfill close to the plug hole?
Cheers
Johannes
There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.
BTW, I can't recall if I've ever measured how much has gone in, just filled till they spilled![]()
update, after a drive, i checked it again and it took another 300ml, so all up 2.2L, all very strange
