24 spline into 10 spline housing

Pulled the axles and diff centre out of my 88 RRC last weekend to fit a 10 spline ARB diff locker,
only to find someone had put in a 24 spline diff centre and professionally machined the axles with an angle grinder!

Would they be safe to use with a locker? looks as though the splines didn't quite reach home in the diff either, or is that about as far as they go?

are they factory axles? its hard to tell from the pics, but did they just gring on the oil seal section? If so and that was ALL you were concerned about, I would either put them in a lathe and turn it of, smooth it out or do as much by hand with a lyisher (sp) belt, just being carefull of the heat.

I am no expert or even half expert, just something I would personaly have a go at doing....worst is it will break...

That looks like the correct depth engagement on the splines to me.

    groovy work

    Hi Roverv8

Those axles have had that butchery done to them, is to allow oil from the diff to feed the hubs, the hub oil seals would most likely be the upgraded type as well.

I think that those grooves, while they don't look pretty will not be a problem.
