I very much doubt it is the converter, these things are very well built and Q control has to be A1 as their products are exported all over the world. More a pump drive or pump itself failure I reckon.

Anyway, sorry but the box most likely needs to be pulled

Just a heads up. Gave in and took my d2 to a shop. Melbourne weather and no garage got to to me.
Result, box full of metal so new box, new TC and empty wallet. Still waiting for final diagnosis on why the transmission failed.

Thanks for posting an update im interested to know if the metal was from your old converter or if the new Ashcroft one failed?

Did you have the pan off when you swapped out the converter?

Also did you send your old converter back to UK or just pay the Core deposit if they are having trouble pin pointing a cause might be worth splitting your old converter.

I removed the pan when I Had the old convertor on and there was a little amount of sludge on the magnet.

I never sent the original TC back

I still haven't heard what caused the old trans to fail yet, don't know if it was the TC or trans or pump

Can you test a TC on a bench?

Just add some thing else I now have a busted front diff.

Did you happen to hit a China man lately?

There is no real bench test only splitting and looking. Why is there a hold up on the cause? Was the box sent out for repair to another shop?

Sorry for the questions just interested to know what happened and if its related to the Ashcroft Converter.

Just thought I'd drag this out old thread, Well my second box has just failed. after 60thous od ks, and just after having a paid service.so I'll be replacing this one my self, I still have Ashcroft Hd converter in the shed so I may get it tested,
Anyone recommend any shops in Melbourne I spoke to TCE in ringwood so I may send it there.

Did you set the TC to the direct depth when fitting. Ashcrofts has a measuring guide on their site for the correct seating depth according to Auto serial.
It is important, as you can't jut drop the TC in and hear a click and think it's correctly seated. It may drop in 3 stages before it's correctly seated and engaged to the pump.
If not seated to correct depth you will damage the pump.
