very interesting.
but fuel is still folwing out of the IP's return outlet and the flow does not reverse at any point.
lambrover, what exactly does not make sense?

next thing I'd check would be the injectors for blow back.
get the engine running @~1Krpm and crack the injector lines one at a time at the injector if one makes a comparitively different tune in the misfire then you have a suspect injector.
do it again at idle and see what the fuel is like when it comes out the injector nozzle, you want to see if you can get it to drip out, if it drips out milky white from all injectors then its something in the IP if its only doing it from one or 2 injectors then its blowby. Time for new injectors.
If its coming from the IP...
disconnect and blank the boost compensator line, clean the compensator vent. If diesel comes out of those holes after a while then you have had a failed compensator diaphragm and ist just a case of replacing that and the pin seal for the compenating actuator pin.

yes it is...
Theres a thread on here about doing it complete with pics of which seal is the most likely suspect along with some fairly understated comments about how clean the engine bay needs to be before you start work.
