Thread: Jump Starter pack as dual battery system.

I have used my 1200 cca equivalent for exactly what you suggest - my 1200 unit was able to power my fridge all weekend with it being on charge driving. On the meter it never got out of the green.

My 1200 unit has a 24A/hr normal lead acid battery so I am guessing your unit will have one about 30A/Hr - maybe a little more. You can work out time from there noting that unlike a deep cycle it will not like being taken down much more than say about 60%.

I also use mine to power my camper when after packing up before driving off - same when arriving so powers the 3 way on 12v for an hour or so each time - again no issues.

The reason for not using it, is as Garry has begun to mention. The type of batteries in that are not suited to long drains of low currents, but short drains of high currents. If you keep draining it, then recharging it, the life of the battery will be terrible and you'll end up spending twice as much (probably even more) on new batteries.

Good for emergencies sure. But for continual use for a fridge, it's life will be very short. A deep cycle battery will work out much cheaper in the long run.

for short term use they are ok (5-6 hours depending on fridge duty cycle) and you have to shape the charge going to them.

we've got a dead one at work from doing just whats been described and then charging it straight from a vehicle with a 50A alternator.

lasted 2ish months.

In this case, not as fast as a purple one would go!

Of course the power pack does tell you when to charge - the red light comes on - but it does need to be on load for it to be accurate. I do not know what state of charge when this happens - if the red light comes on when it is not being used then it has been discharged too far. I have had mine for 3 years and it is still going well - starting cars, running the fridge etc but when I do use it, I take every chance to get some some juice back into it.

The 240v charger provides 1 amp charging so I plug it into a cigarette lighter socket so I would expect the thin wires to limit to about 1 or two amps so it doesn't cook - has worked so far.
