compartment unless it is in an enclosure that is vented to the outside of the passenger compartment. A dry type battery may installed inside the passenger compartment.
7.7.2 Battery terminals and wiring must be positioned so that there can be no accidental shorting to ground of the live terminal. The battery leads are to be secure and kept away from rotating components, fuel system components, and exhaust systems.
7.7.3 Fusible links between the battery and powered components are highly recommended.

    So there you have it.....
Hi skuilnaam and ADRs don’t seem to count for much.

The VE Commodore is a perfect example.

They started the run fitting a standard flooded wet cell battery mounted in the boot, with a pair of drain tubes running down through the boot floor.

They changed the battery to a sealed Calcium/Calcium battery and did away with the drain tubes.

Calcium/Calcium batteries are still flooded wet cell batteries and they still gas, and as the rear seat folds down to give access to the boot area, and the battery is not in an enclosure or vented outside, if it vents, it vents into the cab.

Quite a few other new vehicles are set up similarly

The ARB trays are design for something close to 237mm long x 171mm wide and 208mm high including terminals. The battery in the top pic is roughly that size and uses the heat shield/ clamp as designed.

If you came up with a different clamp arrangement and alternative heat shield you'd be able to squeeze something longer in. The Yellow Top in the second pic is 254mm long, 175mm wide, and 199mm to the top of the terminals
