Thread: BFG KM2 Vs Dick Cepek Mud Country

how much have you guys been paying for the km2? the bf website shows 255/65x16 for d2.....what sizes are you guys using? I have 50mm lift

I realise that the Cepek's aren't wining any votes here; however I seem to recall reading somewhere that those tyres are made & badged by Cooper.

I be leave they are along with another band Micky Thompson and may not be a product of the USA as they claim I was at a show years ago looking at them and the tyre mob at said show had used a buff to remove the made in on the side walls

Go the KM2s. Unless they have changed the compound on the dicks range of tyres I wouldn't bother with them.

And LR are made by TATA...

To be clear - Cooper Tires acquired Mickey Thompson and its Dick Cepek Brand some time ago.

They are different factories, in different locations....

And the products are leagues different in quality

Its also illegal to falsify source and claim they are USA made when not.

Tyre mob at show should be crossed off you "go to" list

G'day all!

I just thought I'd post that we had fitted 4 x new Dick Cepek Mud Country tyres yesterday... with a thought that we'd relay our ongoing impression of them.

Purchased from Bob Jane (Morayfield), at a price of $385 each tyre, fitted and balanced. Tyres were 35 x 12.5 x R15. They replaced the tyres that were on the Defender when we purchased her, which were Mickey Thompson MTZ 35 x 12.5 x R15. As an aside, they informed me that they were unable to do a wheel alignment with the equipment they had on site.

When we purchased the Defender, the MTZs were down to less than half of their original tread depth (as measured by the unused spare on the back), and the Defender was at 100K kms. Yesterday she had reached 123K kms, so it would be a fair assessment that the MTZs would last around 50K kms.

The MTZs were worn down to close to the legal wear limit, and have been on the car with us for around 2 years. I think it's a fair assessment that they had hardened quite considerably, and together with the reduced tread, would be a lot noisier/rougher than when new.

The new tyres have only done about 20 kms so far, and only on bitumen.

We had read as many reviews/comparisons on the internet before we chose the tyres, and the general consensus (always with widely varying opinions interspersed) was that they were a relatively quite, fairly long lasting tyre, that performed well on and off road, in the wet and the dry. There are many options out there for a mud tyre (we don't always play in the mud, but as our weekend drive, we wanted tyres that would assist in taking us wherever we wanted to go), but I was drawn to a less common tyre.

This is the first time we have ever purchased 4WD tyres, so our experience is nonexistent.

Initial impressions only so far - but that being the level of road noise is excellent. I honestly could not hear them at all. Driving down one of our regular roads at 70 kph, we had the windows down and vents open, and could talk to each other and be understood without raising our voices at all. With the old tyres, even at this speed we needed to speak up to be heard. A conversation with the whole family in the car at highway speeds was quite difficult.

Even with leaning my head out the window, I couldn't hear any tyre noise over the noise of the engine.

Bob Jane recommended 40 psi for road pressure, which is what I'll keep them at.

Will post further impressions as we go along. We're heading off on a road trip to Melbourne over the next two weeks, so should be able to provide some feedback on their road manners following that.
