CAN'T FIND A MANUAL FOR COMPRESSOR

I have just purchased a 12 month old XRV17 Scorpion 3hp Cast Iron V-Twin Portable Air Compressor and can't find an online manual/user guide for it.

Was hoping some one might have a copy they could share, or any links if possible.

    Thanks in advance

I see you just asked the same question on Whirlpool.

What do you need to know, is there something wrong with it, as it is likely to be a Chinese knock off, you will probably find there was never a readable user manual available, Regards Frank.

    Thanks for the replies.

My main concerns are attempting to maintain the machine as it was purchased second hand from a Auto Electrician business run by early 20 yr olds that shut down after 1 year (sad but yes the economy isn't too good).

These guys obviously didn't read the manual as they

    a. never drained the compressor
    b. oil reservoir is completely full (as opposed to very clear instructions on the compressor to fill it till the little window is ½ full)
    c. when I drained it there was copious amounts of oil mixture released with the water content

I want the manual to help me go through

    a. steps to clear all components possible of sludge or contaminants
    b. steps to clear/clean and/or replace parts such as filters and regulator/water trap components
    c. steps to clear the tank out completely of any possible oil traces (this step I know is not 100% possible)

My main thing is giving this thing a complete overhaul before I begin to use it myself. It does work well, but I'd be happier knowing I have completed my "Mission" lol by doing all of this.

Last but not least I wanted to find out the cfm of this machine so I can match up a spray gun set for painting cars.

As a after note the manual will help me with parts numbers etc rah rah rah
Thanks again in advance for any advice

How about a few pics and measurements of the tank and cylinders, will help determining the CFM.
Drain the sump of the compressor and pour in a couple of litres of diesel and shake around, drain thoroughly and fill with engine oil to window level.
Drain the tank after every use, I also open the drain valve after I start it up and make sure there is no crap, the pressure reg/water trap should be mounted about a metre above the compressor. my compressor's manual was not worth the paper it was printed on, Engrish not too good solly, just keep an eye on comp. oil level and drain tank and water trap regularly, my comp is supposed to be 15cfm, but I think it is more like 12cfm, Regards Frank.

I had a look on the 'net and it seems it (and probably other identical but differently branded units) are available in a few places. I wonder if it's worth a walk in and read.

Thanks for all the replies again. @Tank, being in the Panel & Spray Industry I have a mediocre idea on keeping a compressor in shape. But then again as above I still want to pull this thing down a bit and find out part numbers or correct product numbers in relation to servicable parts I can replace for a semi-overhaul on the machine and hoped the manual would assist with my "Mission"

As for the "Diesel wash" I found that interesting and wondered if this could contaminate and/or breakdown softer materials after flushing? Assuming that I have to turn it on and once done Diesel vapor/moisture/droplets will enter the main pumping system and components and possibly affect the machines output over time ?

Good advice but 80 hours later I have began to realise that some machine may have similarities yet are not the same deciding factors are many. And after a few attempts at matching up there are still differences in cfm (eg I found 3 items that speced out the same as each other yet on closer examination each items cfm was different by 1-5cfm) This might not seem much but I'm out of pocket if I purchase the incorrect spray gun to match my machine on an "assumption" So yea...guess the Manual would be more specific.

@TANK I just found a thread formula re: tank size vs cfm

The CFM rating for our 2.75 HP compressor with the 50 Litre tank is 8.76 CFM.
The way to work this out (should you ever need to) is by taking the Free Air Delivery in LPM (litres per minute) and dividing it by 28.32. This will give you the CFM of any compressor if you know the Free Air Delivery LPM of the unit. EG our 2.5hp has 112 LPM so it would be 3.9CFM. Please note, this is the free air delivery at the tap, not the pump displacement.
True or not I'm not sure, if so it means my compressor is 8ish CFM. Anyway heres the specs.

XRV17 3hp Cast Iron V-Twin Portable Air Compressor
    • Belt drive
    • 251L/min FAD
    • 150psi
    • 50lt tank
    • 240Volts/10amp
    • Filter/regulator

    Hope that helps

Thanks again for the advice everyone

remove the tank end of the compressor outlet line, drain and replace the compressor oil with a compressor grade oil or light grade diesel oil.

run it for about 20 minutes, drain and refil the oil and put the line back on.

if you need to flush the tank, strip all the fixtures off, put int 10-15l of hot soapy water, slosh it a round plenty, drain, rinse with hot water then leave in the sun to dry or force air through it.

reassemble and thats it service complete.

untill they start passing copious amounts of oil into the outlet line (you'll see it when you run it with the flushing oil in) they're pretty much maintenance free.

I'm pretty sure I have the manual that came with mine. I'll have a look when I'm in the shed later today. If I have it no problem to scan it and email it.
