Are you completely sure of this? My understanding that the different gear design is only to reduce gear noise. Unless I'm really lost, smaller gear teeth make a weaker gear , not a stronger one.....

for spur gears you would be correct, for helical cut gears it gives you more contact patches, Same basic theory of fine pitch threads giving better hold than coarse pitch threads.

The drawback of the finer tooth gears is their tolerance for wear and damage is a lot lower.

If you fit the D1 transfer case to the D2, does it throw faults because it doesn't have the range switch in it, and which throttle map do you end up getting?
    Cheers

Sharkee. If I read you correctly you are putting in the D1 Tcase for the CDL. If so all D2's have the CDL they just did not fit the lever and linkages. They thought the electronic gizmo's would be good enough. People complained so they put them back after a year or so. There are a number of after market addons to activate it if you look on the web. The fine gears were to quieten the Tcase and are designated by a Q after LT230.

Not quite right Ackie. The early D2 had the internals fitted but for some time in 2001 they removed them during manufacturing. Did not return until the D2a came out. Sharkee's one does not have the internals.
    Cheers, David.
