I'm thinking marginally noisier than the BFG's.......not much in it.

They were at the right price....considering I needed six tyres and rims.

Cool...... I've had to look for some replacements for the disco... Ended up going with the Goodride SL366 M/Ts. Will see how they perform in the weeks ahead as we head down to Sundown NP.....

    Pirelli Scorpion Mud Terrain

No siping- these may be a little slippery on a wet road.... and a bit noisier.

These tyres seem to have a more open tread than the Pirelli MT/R's and therefore I assume the life wouldn't be the best either.....

Very similar to the Pro-Comp MT that a mate of mine ran - wore very quickly - sub 40k.
And a little slippery on wet road..

Great in mud and sand though.

    "puts the shovel away"
so i take it the census on the pirelli muds is they are good but wear out quickly, what would be your thoughts on having them on a 2nd set of rims for when you wanna go on harder tracks and have a set of hy/at for normal every day driving?
looking at the 235/85r16 one reason a like them is that have a load rating one above standard discovery 2 tyres at 108 so they shouldn't be jarring to drive around off road

In that case, you'd be better off looking at something more extreme for mud, and cheaper too.
That is, by comparison to an extreme, dedicated mud tyre, the Pirelli muddies will surely be compromised a little for full mud conditions, so that they work well in highway conditions.
A dedicated muddy will howl like mad on road, but of course should give you better offroad performance.

I once ran a set of Pirelli FD44 tyres on my RRC many years back, and I remember back then they had a 215/80 16 size too, which was close to the std 205R16 tyre size for the RRC.
The FD44 wasn't a straight mud type, but had a similar tread pattern to their current mud tyres(MTR).
In a word; BRILLIANT! Wet grip was exceptional, so can understand that they'd not last as long as most other tyres in it's class.

Fairly good in sand too, on a few trips into heavy sandy track areas in central Aus. Never really felt the need to drop tyre pressures on any of the sandy tracks I'd traveled back then.
Can't remember exactly but about 40-50K klms was all I got out of them too, and then tried a set of Yokohama AT types after that.
    Arthur.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

They are intended for Sam and my Series 2As.
I had them on my 2a,no good on wet or gravel roads but bush tracks they excel. Pat
