    TD5 Injector replacement intervals...

    Hi all,

Does anyone know when the recommended injector replacement interval is for my late 2000 Disco 2?

    - Vehicle travelled 280,000 kms

    - currently 9-12 ltrs/100kms economy

    - does blow black smoke at low revs, I believe, but not visable to driver and not for long.

I am shortly going around Aussie for approx 12 months and was wondering if i should change them out. Additionally I need to replace injector/ecu loom so good time to do them. However I'd rather spend the money on other things.

    Your thoughts?

    With Regards,

    Your fellow disco 2 driver

Keep the fuel clean, and apart from some failures due to the odd breakage of the plunger springs and electrical coil failure (Quite rare actually) there is no need to change them.

We have several Td5's around the 350K mark still getting 10l/100 and running fine.

This all sounds good to me. I don't know how well maintained the fuel system was prior to me purchasing the vehicle but I look after it. I'll change out the looms only.

    Thanks guys!

    injector seals?....

Okay....how about injector washer/seals? Would you suggest I pull them out and replace them whilst on the job? There have been some issues with these, haven't there?

I was going to mention the washers and seals but you beat me to it.
Given the Km and your intended trip I would think it would be good preventitive maintanace.
    Cheers, Kyle

if they're not leaking leave em alone.

add a running check with the rocker cover off to you 10K service interval.

    easy.

fill the fuel tank to the brim, remove the rocker cover and wipe down the area around the injectors with metho (do it before you do the oil drain)

    start the engine.

If the top seal is leaking you'll have traces of diesel running over the head from around the injectors. (you may want to use a bearing blue pen to draw a circle around the injector)

if fuel starts to bubble or spurt out of the fillerneck or you see bubbles rising up the filler neck (you may need to gradually top the tank off to make sure its completely full) then the bottom injector seal has failed and combustion gasses are getting back up into the gallery in the head.
