Is it throwing any codes?
I have a 2000 Defender tdi5 Hardtop ex Army, as new, 43,000 on the clock, just registered it two weeks ago.
Taken it for a couple of drives recently and the vehicle takes off ok but underway cuts (not cuts out completely) and starts, then under acceleration seems to go fine for a while then the same problem reoccurs.
Does'nt seem as powerful as my 2004 Discovery with the same motor.
2000 Defender ex army with that low kls suggests it may have been standing for a long while at some stage or very little use, it had a full tank of fuel when I collected it from the Auction, maybe the fuel has gone stale?
Anyone have a similar problem or offer any suggestions.
Cheers.
Is it throwing any codes?
Oil in the harness?
Or is that issue limited to discos?
Frozen waste gate rod forcing the ECU to cut fuel due to overboost
Free up with a pair of lock grips and some WD40
check the wire and conecting plug on your injector pump .
maybe check for delamination of the intercooler pipes, mine was doing it but at the same time was blowing alot of smoke while the power was dieing.
Check for algae in the fuel tank. Should see some evidence of it in the fuel system (sediment bowl, fuel filter or just drain a little from the tank into a glass jar). You will see it as small greeny brown filaments.
Thanks to all for your input, I shall keep you informed as to the fault location and correction.
Cheers
G/day to all interested parties, the problem has been found and corrected which is a good little story about great service in itself.
Made phone contact with a well known Landrover Service and Repair Business little north of Brisbane, advised them of my problem and could I book it in for the required service /repair, "all booked out until Wednesday week" I replied can leave with you and should you get a cancelation you maybe able to fit it in, etc. I haven't got any wheels and I would prefer not to use it as it is.
Dropped the Defender down about an hour later to the Landrover business about 9.30 am and got a lift home. Did a couple of chores for the wife and received a phone call about 11.00 am, "your vehicle is ready".
Can you believe it, hows that for service ?? got a lift back down to the garage paid the account and was home by 12.30 .
I cannot tell you the pleasure I got from driving the Defender home and feeling the pulling power and smoothness of the engine back to normal again.
It turns out " the intercooler to the manifold hose was off" something so simple can have such an
impact on the preformance of a vehicle.
Safe driving, Cheers.![]()
