Fitting winch to ARB deluxe bar

Hey guys I have an ARB deluxe bar on my D1 its the one with the crush cans..and the fairlead hole is set back unlike the previous bar.

here is a picture of it.

    My question is...

I thought perhaps I would need to get a cradle for this bar (im used to winches sitting in bars and being bolted down) as there appeared to be no where to put the winch.
Yorkie has the same bar and he states that the winch bolts to the bar direct just behind the fair lead....

has anyone else got a winch fitted to this bar that can give me some pics?

there are no holes in the area of the fairlead placement for the winch only two holes for the fairlead...

my guess is if the winch does bolt to the back of the fairlead part of the bar do I have to space the winch out? because it cant sit flush due to the nuts of the fairlead being in the way.
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

Normally on this type of ARB bar with the recess for the fairlead you need to drill two extra holes in the fairlead and two of the bolts that hold the winch on also go through the fairlead.

That's an issue i've been pondering myself.
I'd thought about reversing the bolts, so the nut was on the outer side and grinding down the bolts, but that's a bit too messy for my liking.
I thought the fairlead structure interfered with using the winch bolts to secure it.
And there's no cradle for ARB bars
I'll be watching this thread with interest

I remember on my D1 I had to buy a cradle kit for the ARB deluxe bar when I fitted the winch. It also made the winch sit low relative to the chassis rails and caused it get get full of crud very quickly. On the plus side it was a useful bash plate.

Spoke to two ARB shops today about these cradles, first one was really rude and told me ARB have never made them as they have only ever made bull bars that take winches. He told me i should speak to TJM is i want a bull bar that is sub standard. Which I told him was not right as I have a RRC with an ARB bull which can't take a winch.

But the second ARB shop said said yeah they did used to do them but don't do them anymore. Well not for the disco 1 or 2 or the RRC.

AFAIK the airbag compatible bars use a cradle and the others don't.

Mine is a non airbag older model without the recess or rubber bumper bits and it has no cradle.

I remember there being a winch fitting kit listed in their price list for Discoverys. I don't remember what was in it though. Probably a cradle :-)

I have the same bar. Winch definitely sits in a separate cradle bolted to the chassis. It was supplied with the bar when I bought it new a couple of years ago.

    Check behind the number plate...

If that is the Bar model version I think it is, then it has 2 holes up behind the plate for the upper bolts...

That version shouldn't require the cradle.

lou, above is correct, iirc two of the bolts hold go through the fairlead and into the winch, the other two just go through the bar to the winch.
i needed to buy some new bolts for fitting mine as needed some different lengths, think 40 and 45mm.
will try and get a pic tonight.

this is pic of what bar looks like, just two holes, do we need to drill two more holes.
then mount it. we will be fitting a plasma rope with a non roller fairlead does that make a difference.
    thanks ian
