Thread: Getting to fairlead bolts.

Take another look... Whats in your way! It needs to be removed!

Look on the bottom of the upright roller... See the clip locking it in!

Unclip it and lift the pin up and repeat at the top (need to remove the number plate often to see the clip.

Now it drops out and the roller moves out the way and 'hey presto' you can fit a socket

I wish it was that easy
I tried removing the vertical rollers, however the rest of the cradle prevents access to the top of the fairlead.

not sure how other fairleads are done, but the tigerz one requires the circlips at the bottom to be removed, so the pin can slide up.
Even if I removed the circlips, there's no room for the pin to slide up and release the roller.
I could have mounted it the other way, so the clips were at the top, but there'd be no room to get the pliers in.

why are you trying to remove it anyway?.

You might have to make your own tool here with a socket or ring spanner end and cutting and welding some flat bar to be your leverage that is the right shape to fit in the gap

I have had to do this in the past using an old socket - or buy a single use one - and take a slice off the end that is just as thick as the bolt head then weld flat or bent flat bar to be your leverage

Keep the tool for future repairs of course - but the up side is it is pretty hard to steel the winch unless you have the tool (this is very landrover style of course to need special tool!)

that'd be me
I'm not trying to undo it, it's only on a shade past finger tight, not what you want as those bolts also secure the winch, as well as the fairlead

tried on of these?

Your looking at it wrong.... Its bloody easy - as 1, 2, 3...
