Wastegate sticking open on Puma 2.4

last saturday, my 110 (2.4 puma) seemed to be blowing air out the wastegate - bit of air escaping noise - no worries, forgot immediately about it - I was on my way somewhere and there was no loss of power, so all good.
Next day drive up my road to go to the beach with the kids and what do you know, engine warning lamp lights up and engine goes into limp mode. OK ring for warranty tow, driver from Narooma towing is great, drops the car off at 9am in Canberra morning.

2 days later I ring the Canberra dealership - they are XXXXXXXX - 'oh yeah your cars been ready since Monday' Ok so what was wrong with it? 'Software fault' in reply.
OK so when do I get it back "oh you have to organise a tow or pick it up' - as if, I live $250kms away....
got onto Landrover Australia and all sorted - they were great.
Got it back yesterday afternoon (Friday) at 5pm - bit slow on the return, they (LR Aust) only realised that the car was still in Canberra at 10am on Friday after I had a so as I said they (LR Aust) have been great and at least I didn’t have to pay for it.

This morning I’m racing out of the house to get to an Australia day ceremony with my scout group, drive the 700metres up the road to the main and what do you know - engine light and limp mode. BUGGER!!!!!! (and some other colourful words).

The missus is away so can’t take her car so I jump into the Isuzu Rodeo I’ve got and woohoo flat battery! - hasn’t been started in a couple of weeks and I guess it’s time for a new battery. (more buggers etc...at this stage)
Jump into my FSR Isuzu (9tonne) and I’m off, incidentally I had a couple of jobs to do so I kept moving my hand tools from vehicle to vehicle just to add to the excitement.

Rang for another tow, Australia day, nothing’s happening till Monday or Tuesday naturally. But that’s OK, I can still get around.
So I get back home and have popped the bonnet and what do you know the wastegate is sticking open. When you turn the engine off you can hear and see the wastegate closing. Obviously with the bonnet open here.
The wastegate is activating when you depress the clutch - as you would expect but then not disengaging, low air pressure and the computer goes 'Oh dear limp mode please'.

The guys in Canberra must have not taken the vehicle for a test drive, Tuggeranong hill is a pretty steep climb which would do the job perfectly but I guess that that was to hard?
Anyone else had this or similar happen?, any home solutions here?, I know it’s under warranty so I have to be careful so not to void it.
    cheers
hope everyone has a great Australia day

There is no waste gate on the "Puma" turbo......... Sounds like you possibly have a split in the intercooler hose.

Thats the actuator for the variable geometry gubbins in the turbo.

Is your car a 2010 model? There is a known problem with the loom that goes to the actuator.

Hi Tim, posted the EGR valve question before seeing your post, No mine was built end of 2011 but would not suprise me if this was the problem. No ready fix I guess?

Could be the EGR valve, some people have has success removing them and cleaning them, but it looks to be a ***** of a job to get it out. If the car is still under warranty I'd reccommend leaving it for the dealer to sort out.

There is a "repair" loom to fix the problem. Part number for the kit is LR020663.

Phil sorry to hear of your problem with the Puma, I was going to ring you after the rain stops and see if you were up for a run, now that the bushfire threat has passed.
I'm afraid I dont have any experience with Puma tech, but if you need a hand at all give me a ring, also let us know when you're up for a trip/run, regards Frank.
