I've seen it work with nitrous on petrol engines but I think the nitrous benefit outweighed any attempt to overcome lag.
t to minimise the spool up time (for those of us that like having onboard air done the right way with a belt driven compressor) what if
we took a bleed line from the tank (100-130psi) fitted a control valve and then drilled and tapped an outlet into the turbine housing so that it directed a jet of air along the turbine wheel angled around to drive at about the middle of the wheel...
add a couple of sensors/switches to enable the air to be switched on when you go wide open throttle but are low on boost....

what about the old Anti Lag System , squirt some fuel & compressed air into the exhaust manifold to keep the fire going.![]()

Just out of interest - I run a 110-130psi switch in my air system
The tank I use is a 22L ex direct drive compressor tank
Its mounted under the drivers seat
I kinda sorta tend to not like leaving it at full blow while driving around!
Of course happy for it cycling with the hand throttle on while airing up or runnning the rattler when Im not sitting on top of it!
But generally leave 50psi in it to pressure the water tank
I guess I have seen some big badda booom injuries from high pressures vs human fraility
So the I like your idea BUT would need to move my tank!
Would it make enough difference to matter?

oh yes - they can

would the volume of air be sufficient?
How many litres per cycle would the engine suck?
multiply that by rpm / 4
then how many litres of output would your system provide over the same time frame?
Obviously you'd need to figure out litres @ x pressure, then use boyles law to see how many litres you'd have at the end pressure.
I always thought it wouldn't work, but never did the maths.
Let's see some number crunching, and the physicists may want to correct any of my assumptions here.
Dunno I was doing a rebuild on a VNT for someone (sticking vanes and a holed diaphragm) when they spotted the airtank in the bull bar of the green disco and ask where it was. At that point a couple of ideas had a collision in my head got rear ended by a computer game memory and the idea formed of the wreckage.
You've mis-interpreted the idea its not to have the compressed air to run the engine its to have the compressed air spin up the turbine while the engine is struggling to get on boost, once the engine is on boost the exhaust gasses from the engine would run the turbinne as per normal.
The engine would then drive the air compressor to top up the tank again for next time it was needed.

Dumb question: are you going to spin the inlet turbine or the exhaust turbine? A degree of charge cooling may result from dumping rapidly expanded air in the intake wheel.
