    Help with heat!
I have read a fair bit about the heat issues through the floor of the Puma Defenders. i have an issue that the battery box is getting so hot I can smell the acid boiling.i have to pull the seat out and look for a tree to park under to allow it to cool. Now read some of the remedies. Do any really work? thinking of lagging the exhaust and gluing thick race car type insulating foil under floor and particulay following the exhaust or does the heat emit from the engine bay more than the exhaust? when i had it in Mongolia on a big trip a year ago at minus 15 it was a bonus. back here its a real problem. any ideas really appreciated.

I've done quite a bit of tinkering with heat supression in my old Citroens. I found this stuff was cheap, yet effective. I'm not sure how you would go about applying around a battery box though.

Yes it's my old Citroen that he's linked on his website. I'm going to line the trannie tunnel of my old Range Rover classic with it if I ever pull the carpets out for any reason. I've just finished lining the firewall and front floors of an old Citroen DS with it (they suffer horendous heat soak) .... even without the windscreen in or bonnet on it seems massively cooler and much quieter.

This is a useful thread. Note what Barra1 did on his Defender using insulation from Clark Rubber.

No matter what the problem - there's a solution. You've just got to find it.

    G'day Walhalla,
Welcome to the forum. I'm assuming its you that I met a few months ago at the park there. We had a small discussion about you trip etc (whilst we were stopped having lunch). Good to see you here. If you get the chance, I'm sure there's more than just me who'd love to see picks and hear your stories from your OS trip

Have you checked with either the Dealer or a Battery place to see if the battery/alternator are ok. Seems strange that it should almost cooking. I wouldn't have thought it was even really that hot to start with (?).

Quickest and very effective heat rduction is to fit a De-cat engine pipe, have heard it fixes 90% of the prob instantly.
