It's a boge load leveller, and it can be rebuilt if necessary, or completely removed, if you wish.

If the rubber gaiter on the bottom is not oily inside, then it is probably OK, unless of course it is so long since it was empty that it has all dried out.

Most RR I have seen they have been removed. Everyone who has any sort of lift gets rid of it. I have actually never riden in a RR with one fitted. And our family have owned 6 Range Rovers.

Mine has only just given up the ghost, and I will be replacing it as when it was working, it worked very well.

Keeps the whole show level. If you pull it out or it is stuffed, you will have a saggy bum if you put a decent load in the back. You can put stronger spring in the back, but this will effect the ride somewhat. Depends what you want.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know anyone who supplies these still, or repairs them?

    Cheers - Gav

If you do a search on the Boge Load Leveler, you will find a heap of discussion on it. It is the heart of the Range Rover's original suspension as it allowed long travel, soft coils springs which gave the original Rangie it's fabulous articulation, whilst the load-leveler in the middle allowed a reaonable payload. It's the reason the original Range Rover was unstoppable off-road and felt like you were going to skin your elbows when cornering on-road.

I've never seen one that was modded and by the time they are modded the units are dead anyway.
