Thread: Compressor location

my arb[came with the car in this location] compressor has been under the seat for the last 6 years[my ownership] and does get used, i have sports seats fitted so i cut an opening flap in the side of the seat base to access, yes it gets hot! have heard of others fitting a small 12 volt fan to move the air.

Mine has been mounted under the rear seat for 13 years. Firstly a blue-tongue and now an arb (fitted for the lockers). I assume you are probably referring to the front seat though - not an option for me as the LR tank fills the spot.

Cheers gents, yeah sorry, I did mean to say "front seat". Specifically driver's side seat box. I might just give it a whirl and see what happens. If it needs to move then I might try to find a spot under the rear seats. Although I'd rather keep that area clear...

Surely the spot under the seat cant be worse then in a hot engine bay.

mine is under the passenger seat with the battery. that's not quite as sealed as the drivers side one (in a td5 anyways)

Good point Benz. And the air is bound to be cleaner too. I'm going to run with it and see what happens.

One of the best mods I've done was to cut an access hole in the outboard side of the drivers seatbox, to turn it into a useful storage compartment.
Leave about 50mm to each edge of the panel and cut the middle out with generous radii at the corners. A bit of edge strip from Clark Rubber on the remaining metal edge and job's done.

I store my air hose, jumper leads, and a couple of other regularly used items in there. Easily accessible with the door open, but as soon as you close the door the door card fits closely against it and stops anything falling out.

That would work out well for you if you fitted a compressor in there - just open the door when you are using it and it will get plenty of air.
