early this year we had a range dyno tuned, it has a 4.6 with a pc217 cam and roller rocker with a set of pacemaker and 2.5 inch exhaust, the car runs the thor manifold and a haltech sprint 500, the transfer is a 1.4 to one and the diffs are lower than standard, it runs 35 inch baja claws, the speed reed about 10 high because of the low ratio, with the front tailshaft out and center diff lock in it made 107kw at the rear wheels, it does go hard on the road and easly drags a 6cyl falcon or comodore and has a close drag with a boss260 xr8 falcon, the 107 kw just sounds low, what have others got after a dyno run the dyno guy at pro auto in hobart said its about 300 flywheel hp because of the losses in the tyres![]()
OR...
it was driven by a steerer
I beat a porche off the lights coming back from enoggera tuesday this week, He had ass loads of power but couldnt get a launch on the up hill it I sat behind him while he either lit up the tyres and started slewing sideways because he had too much noise on OR he stalled. On his 4th attempt I got out from behind him, then over took in the dual lanes (and here I was thinking that I'd be able to beat the dump truck through the dual lanes because the only thing in front of me was..... the porche)

If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
Put some road tyres on it and dyno again. Or even better, with hub-packs instead of rollers.
Was the gearbox locked-up or stirring oil?
Was watching Dream Car Garage the other day and they dynoed a 65 Shelby Mustang - they built a new engine and dynoed the engine - they then put it in the car and dynoed the car to get the power at the wheels. They were expecting a 12% difference but it was a tad over 20% loss. They did not give the actual HP of the engine or the HP at the wheels but indicated 20% which was a little more than was expected.
So I would say that if a 2wd was loosing 20%, a 4wd with tfr case, extra diff and driveshaft you would be loosing a lot more than 20%.

The biggest issue is that dyno owners are reticent to soend the extra on the extras such as temp sensors for ambient, inlet etc temps. So they are supposed to manually add these in before doing a run.
There's wo effects of this, either you get a flase reading as the settings never leave default or a knowledgeable operator will add high inlet, ambient etc temps and the computer takes the reading and fudges the figures back to a "standard" reading at a common temp. This is how your commodores/skylines etc can make eleventy billion HP at 4000RPM with a baby eating hairdryer bolted on on E10 in reverse with the handbrake on.
