There is a technical paper on how the Torsen style diffs work linked from the wikipedia article. I think the bias ratio is different on the Ashcroft and Quaife diffs but still interesting background on the design.

That's the original T1 style centre, the Torsen T2, Quaife, Tru-Trac and ATB centres use an entirely different, simplified and stronger parallel axis worm gear design. (I made the same mistake years ago)

I'll dig up a thread I posted the differences on ages ago.

[edit] Here it is, with photos and drawings and the Ashcrofts chiming in too Quaife differential

I've been thinking about Ashcroft ATB's for a while now, & got this off the Ashcroft web site, Bob [click on limited slip differentials, ] this is about 12 months old.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I could use one . . . or two. I expect there would be a market for them considering how many LT95s are still around.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

Haven't been following this subject, but are you saying you fit the standard atb into an lt230, or its a special one made for the lt230? I have one set up for my front diff, which could go in the lt230 and I'll order a locker for the front if this is the case

Aha thanks dougal, I thought so. Will leave front diff where it is. Might look into the t/case one before I bolt the rest of the bits to it. Is it a case out job, or can it be done in car? Can't remember with the 230.
