so out of interest what happens when we get to 15 years?, will there be a mad rush with people replacing bags? is there another cheaper supplier? something i have wondered about before.

That is a really good question. I suspect without an OEM source of the bags most people will take Mr. Whippy's attitude. The genuine bags and pretensioners are likely to be at least 50% of the value of a pre-facelift D2, so you'd have to wonder who exactly would fit them unless there was a legal requirement to do so.

The only thing I can find OEM at present is the drivers airbag at around £75. If you could pick up the parts at that kind of price level I think a lot of people would be inclined to do it. Given the implications of the SRS failing when required you'd be inclined to refresh if it was even remotely affordable. Current genuine pricing doesn't come close to "remotely".

Off track I think I will do as you have stated. Better to change good then to leave bad oil! Just 2 questions what is the Centrifugal and full flow filters?

Have a look at the UP oil change page for pics:

www.discovery2.co.uk / Oil and Filter change

The centrifugal rotor filter is the one under the alloy cover. It spins at 15,000rpm and filters out fine particles from the oil. I've had a local parts seller tell me that you should always use genuine for the centrifugal filter even if you use OEM for the others.

The full flow filter is the standard screw on job.

As Slunnie has posted the LR fuel filter is the best choice as it apparently uses microporous filter construction. If you wanted to save a bit of money on this I'm pretty sure the LR filter is made by UFI (the LR part shown on UP's site has the UFI stamp). Mahle, Coopers, etc make a product that will fit but is not the same construction and quality and are a quarter the price of the UFI filter.

The SRS bags in my D1 are now 17 years old and I won't be changing them. I would rather not have the bloody things. They are a PITA when it comes to bull bars, winches and recovery points Swmbo has a 98 fairlane and there is nothing in Fords book to say they need changing, so I can't see how LR's bags are any different.

As for Offtrack price of 75 pounds(where he got a pound symbol from beats me) this would not be much over $100 plus freight. At that price people might change them.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Victoria is one of the toughest states when it comes to RWC, and if it hasn't happened by now I doubt it will

    On Mac at least:
    option(alt)-3 = £
    option(alt)-shift-2 = €
    option(alt)-shift-8 = °

All very handy on the forum

The airbags are made by a US-Swedish company called Autoliv. They had a seatbelt manufacturing facility in Melbourne until 2011.

You'd have to guess that any OEM availability will be driven by either the UK or US mandating that airbags be replaced after X years.

I love my d2 and so far it's been good to me. So I'd rather buy the best of it, even if I give my mate 100 or so for his help I'll still be miles ahead.

Just wondering what brand and type of oil you would recommend for the engine, diffs, trans and transfer case ect and I'll start to put a shopping list.

I'm lucky to live not far from thriumph rover spares so I might try and buy what I can from them.

    Thank you very much everyone

Have a read of this thread.

    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...-what-oil.html

Rick 130 works in the oil industry and is regarded as the oil guru. I was more than happy to follow his advice. I am using Gulf Western Oil Top Dog Global Plus 10/40. This is semi synthetic. I sent Rick the specs on this and he says that it far exceeds the minimum spec for TD5.

To top it off it is made right here in oz
