    clutch slipping at 80kph

    Hi everyone,
    Vehicle Disco 200tdi
    Mileage 365,000

When I put my foot on the go pedal to overtake someone at around 80kph, the clutch seems to be slipping. This is in 5th gear. It has happened once or twice before, but wasnt sure if it was my imagination or not,but today I definately knew the clutch was slipping. It wasnt bad,but you could tell that it was slipping.

Slave cylinder has been replaced roughly 20 thou ago,so its unlikely that.
Master cylinder has had a leak for a while now and its time to do the master cylinder.Putting fluid in roughly every 7-10 days now.
Could it be just the master cylinder that is the problem or am I looking at replacing clutch as well?

    Thanks
    cheers

As the master cylinder only operates when you put your foot on it, then it is not the MC, if the clutch is slipping under load it will be either the clutch plate friction material is worn out, or the pressure plate has lost it's "pressure", looks like it's time for a replacement clutch, or you have a bad oil leak which has contaminated the clutch friction material, Regards Frank.

Can probably confirm this by starting from standstill in 2nd gear and watching the tach for abnormal behaviour as you accelerate. If it's the original clutch and pp, then 360k km is a quite respectable service life... good driving technique!

From what I understand the clutch is the original.
My friends brother had it before I bought it and he put a recon box in it,but the clutch/pp were left untouched as far as I know.

Waiting to hear back from my mate,he was in solicitors office when I rang him.

    cheers

One test I was told is to stop (in a quite street or driveway NOT on a busy road please lol) put on the break hard while realeasing the clutch for a normal gentle take off, but with your foot still pressing hard on the break...I was told that if your still sitting there with your clutch out and your not moving then your clutch is stuffed, and if it stalls then its good and to look elsewhere

disco dans test is good but skewable.

When the engine is hot the clutch heats up and looses "grip", similarly you dont get full torque untill 1700+ish RPM so the clutch may hold on at lower power values. Also you dont put full load on the clutch untill you're in 5th (unless your doing an abusive test trying to launch at 2k+ RPM and riding the clutch out against the brakes)

IF it slips in dans test its really really rooted.

the last thing it might be is the Adjustment on the MC not being correct with no free play causing it to intermittently hold fluid pressure BUT given the number of KM's on the clock and the suspicion its the original clutch assembly I'm going to back that you need a new friction plate, throw out bearing and presure plate.
