I noticed an instant and notable improvement when I cleared a MAF fault from the ECU.
I bought my 2004 Discovery 2 ES TD5 (119 000kms) in January and have been disappointed with its performance from day 1, however I still love the vehicle. To date I have replaced the injector harness (was a small amount of oil on the ecu plug). Fitted a new wastegate modulator, the old one had been by passed. Fitted a new MAF sensor. Replaced the auto gearbox filter and oil (as per Discovery2.co.uk specs) Unfortunately none of this has helped with the lack of power on the hills, on the flats the landy will sit at 120 (revs between 2500 and 2800rpm) with no problem, you can even go faster but as soon as you start climbing a hill she looses speed, accelerating as you climb the hill does nothing, obviously if you kick down the box will change to 3rd but doesn't seem to rev above 3000rpm. I have had someone follow me and they advise at NO time does any black smoke come out the exhaust
. SO is it underfueling? Is it overboosting? Is it slippage on the torque convertor?
. On a trip 900km trip over the weekend it averaged 9.36kms to the litre and top speed of 80 on the hills
. Has anyone else had this problem with their TD5?
I noticed an instant and notable improvement when I cleared a MAF fault from the ECU.

Rather than guessing, plug in a nanocom or find some one who has one. Do a run with the instrument feed capture running and look at the results or post them here for others to look and comment on for you.
I see you are in S Africa so you may find a person with a nanocom on your local land rover forums.
Other random thought... Have you checked your turbo Intercooler hoses?
Cheers

Yep you'd be right muppetbrain not in gear here

Thanks trying to find someone close by with a nanocom unfortunately they have to be imported here so not very common.
I am only a new TD5 owner but I can tell you that poor hillclimbing is not normal.
I second doing a Nanocom data dump, but you can also check some physical things.
If you have no smoke my first thought is that you have low boost as it is the little turbo that gives this ability. Your wastegate may be jammed open. Have you looked inside the turbo to ascertain that the wastegate blade is actually there? I would also check for physical damage to the turbo blades.
Another possibility is a blocked exhaust. dismount the exhaust and see if there is a difference.
Perhaps other physical things to check are if you have an egr butterfly, is it jamming open.
The car should rev cleanly to 4200RPM .

Also check fuel supply - filter blocked/fuel pressure reg/fuel pump.
I reckon fuel pump most likely after my recent experience.

What size tyres do you have on it? Std or oversize?
I get what you describe only when running larger diameter tyres. 265/75/16 Cooper STT
When running std size it pulls like a train.

The ability to view real time info is the only sure fire method to track down faults such as this. the other possibility is the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP)sensor, located in the inlet manifold. These can fault and cause low power output due to a low signal.
Also worth removing and cleaning them as they get blocked up with sludge from the EGR system...
