    Projecta Pro-Charge

Has any one had any experience using the new (ish) Projecta Pro-Charge line of Battery Chargers?
Currently I am using a very old projecta unit that has 6v Trickle/12v Trickle/12v Fast charge settings on it, its fine for doing normal Wet batteries, but I am concerned with its ability to charge a pair of AGM batteries that my son has in his Electric Car. It runs 2X PowerSonic 12v 12AH AGMs in series for 24V

I have been charging it (the electric car) for the last couple of months on the 12V Trickle setting, (batteries in series) and it seems to be fine, however, I was under the impression that AGM's should be charged at a higher voltage than standard Wet Batteries. I dont want to Bone these batteries from undercharging, and I dont want to dry them out either.

This is what Im looking at:

    http://projecta.com.au/Products/Auto...ryCharger.aspx

They are currently 20% off at AutObarn if anyone else is interested!

I realise that the AGMs will not require the whole 8A that the projecta can supply, but I am hoping that it will be universal enough to charge the Electric Car, and charge the Disco or any other vehicle in the fleet if need be.

I am looking at this as an alternative to a CTek Charger which seem a little overpriced, I realise they are good, but could the projecta be As Good?

    Cheers,

Projecta used to be good so if its a bit older it should be fine. I have always been told a trickle charge if you have the time is better for the batteries than a fast charge

Haven't used the model you are referring to, but we've got about a dozen of the Projecta IC1500 15A ones on mobile printing trolleys in our warehouse. http://projecta.com.au/Products/Batt...li-Charge.aspxWork well and no failures as yet (been phasing them in over the last couple of years).
They automatically detect battery type (we're running AGM's) but you can manually select too.

I notice the one you're looking at is a 6 stage, but the IC1500 is 7 stage. I didn't notice what the extra stage was about...

Seems the 7th Stage is a "rejuvenation" stage.

Have you had a look at what "Redarc" have available, they are built in Australia for our conditions, check out their web-site or call them, Regards Frank.

Hi phat and you have it back to front.

Wet cell batteries can tolerate much higher charging voltages than most AGMs can and most Calcium/Calcium ( Ca/Ca ) batteries actually require much higher voltage boost cycles.

If you are looking for a new charger and want the best, try this link.

    Cheers,
I have an Intelli Charge IC 1500 and it has trouble getting the AGM back up overnight. OK for a maintenance charge or to bring back over a few days as the reconditioning phase can still be running the next day.
