I just re did my disco rims, they where all stone chipped and going rusty.
All I did was wash them down with a brush and truck wash, then cut a piece of cardboard to the curve of the rims. I found a half tin of etch primer and gave them a light spray with that, moving the cardboard around as I sprayed. Then I finished with a can of gloss black from bunnings and they look great.
Just make sure you put them in the sun for a while to take the chill off them, it helps the paint bind to the steel.
I figure , no matter which way I went they were going to get chipped and look rough after another few years, so this is the cheapest method I could think of.

Not flip just move the centre in to increase track
I had flipped disco rims on a s111
Too wide for a coiler

Oh yeah suits 255's on a deefer perfectly![]()
As mentioned I galvanised my rims. No need to worry about them for at least 30 years after that. They start off shiny silver then fade. As modman mentioned you can still paint the outside face if you wish.
The rims in the pic have not been flipped, but have had the centres moved 15 mm in. You probably wouldn't need to bother modding the trailer rims.

If you have a 130 tub trailer don't 90 and 110 rear flares go straight on??
Would match your 110
IMHO they break up that slab sided look
Like Ben I have offsets painted
One day ill get them galvanized warm them paint the faces with kill rust and bake them (if I can be bothered)

Out of curiosity I just rang a place to get a quote for galvanising. $44 per rim, but they don't do sandblasting so they would have to be clean before hand.
The biggest point though was he recommended NOT to hot dip galvanise rims. He said the gal will pool on the lowest point of the rim causing balance problems.
Last point first - yes it will, but it is easy to touch up with a grinder and on a heavy LR rim won't affect balance. I have galvanised 10 disco rims and 5 series/110 rims. All were dipped and all balanced fine afterwards with minimal work after galvanising.
They can spin them, however that usually costs more.
Galvanisers usually charge extra for rims because they can. it is better to see if you can get one to do them on a weight charge (with other stuff).
I either used paint stripper on my rims beforehand or used a caustic bath (easy to make one up).
I resprayed a set with a generic "Wheel Silver" paint that I got from an Auto Paint store. The colour is almost identical to the original silver. I just cleaned them up, gave them a light sand and sprayed them without any additional primer. It's holding up much better than the original paint. I had the tyres off so sprayed everywhere. They don't seem to bother painting the area hidden by the tyre well, or even the back of the rim when it comes from the factory so they always seem to get rust bleeding through the paint in those places. I like the sound of Gal rims though!
