    Need some advice

    G'day
I removed the master cylinder and servo from me Disco to day and will fit newy's. Cripes that top nut beside the pedal is a BUGGER to get at, eh.
Any way, on the old servo there is an alloy spacer between the servo and the firewall.
On the new unit there is only a thin soft rubbery gasket glued on, no alloy spacer.
Cant find any reference to this spacer anywhere or why it is there. It looks like a factory made part ?
I am inclined to put it back on with the new servo.
    What do you reckon ?

    Thanks.

    PS: to the above.
We know that when we bleed the brakes we dont push the peddle all the way down to the floor while we build up the pressure because doing so can damage the servo internls.
Perhaps this spacer thingy is to restrict the inward movement to prevent the same possible damage ?

    Cheers.

Measure from the centre of the push rod pedal connecting pin hole to the mounting face, then make sure the new booster is set up to exactly the same distance.

I agree with you. I would refit the spacer. It appears that it would provide additional support and stability.

    Stupid bugger.
I should have checked the Rave CD in the first place instead of wondering about it.
Oh well, now we both know.

    Thanks.

Well what are you doing here? get it back together, Robert.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Well, couple of things to do first.
Sometime in the past brake fluid has spilled down onto the wheel arch area and damaged the paint and left surface rust down there. It was all ****ty around the body to chasis mount and I was very worried that it was broken. I cleaned the whole area up and liberally coated it all with rust converter. Body mount okay I am pleased to say. Today I will begin to clean it up and undercoat and paint the affected area.
Also when I took the seat out to give the olbod room to get at the servo under the dash I discovered that the seat base was cracked so today I will weld it.
No hurry, more important to do the job right.

One of the handicaps with having new lenses and being able to see once more is that I am now discovering things that I did not want to know about.

    Cheers.

    Fixed.
Now that wasn't too difficult was it

For as long as I have had this Disco the drivers seat has been uncomfortable. It catches me under the leg behind the knee and makes the leg ache on a bit of a trip. Think I commented on it a few years ago.
Anyway on close inspection while the seat is out I discovered that in the past someone has had both seats out and seperated from the seat bases.
The two seats are a different shape and the stupid bugger had put them back in the wrong sides. DOH.
I have rearranged them correctly and put the passenger seat back in the car. Sitting in the drivers seat on the dining room floor it feels good, leg is not sitting across the high point of the bucket. I put up with the damn thing for years.

    Cheers.
